Loop Session: Catch Wayne Snow Streaming Live from the Studio
Each Loop Session invites you to spend a few hours in the virtual company of an artist to learn about their work and ideas. For the next session on March 4, we’re visiting singer and songwriter Wayne Snow for a studio session where he’ll walk you through the process of how he wrote a brand new song for his forthcoming album.
When he’s in the studio, Wayne Snow deploys acting techniques to explore and recall scenarios, emotions and thoughts, and works with a producer to resurface them into creative energy for his music. This visceral approach to songwriting requires tools and workflows that allow him to capture the feelings that come up and respond to them immediately.
You’ll meet the artist with producer Golo Schultz in Brewery Studios, Berlin. Together they’ll demonstrate how they collaborate to give form to his ideas – first by recording body percussion and using whatever objects they have at hand to create the sounds, then by adding vocal improvisation to build up the track layer by layer. Through a mix of listening, live demonstrations and the chance to submit your own questions to the studio, you’ll get an inside look at the working relationship between a songwriter and a producer, and learn how to create a studio environment that allows you to generate ideas and seize them in the moment.
Musician Katarina Holmberg will moderate and field questions from you at home. After the 90-minute studio session, you can join the Loop Cafe – a group chat for discussing learnings from the session and your own studio practice.
Loop Session will stream on loop.ableton.com on March 4 at 6pm, Berlin/Germany (UTC+1). Check out the timezone selector to find out when it happens in your local time.
