Derek VanScoten is a guitarist, educator and Emmy-winning music composer. He produces music and performs under the name Cloudchord. In addition to being an Ableton Certified Trainer, Derek holds a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor of Science in Audio Production from Middle Tennessee State University.

Teacher/ Live Experience:
Derek began his music teaching career at the University of Colorado and Naropa University in 2005. He started producing on Ableton Live in 2006, and presented a guitar looping Push demo at NAMM Los Angeles in 2013.

Derek has presented on Live and Push in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Dallas and Denver at User Groups, retail stores and music schools.

He hosts an annual three-day music production retreat at Alex Greyʼs Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in Upstate New York. He also teaches private lessons in person and online.

Derek releases guitar and Push videos via social media under the name Cloudchord.

Derek does screen sharing between the Ableton Live sets, and he sends hi-resolution audio from his feed. He has a a variety of self-created sample packs available to send to the students for the lessons as well.
