From conceptualizing, building and operating cutting-edge setups for audio visual performance to analyzing and configuring solutions for composition, production and technology integration, Timo has worked with a wide variety of sound enthusiasts, companies and well-known artists including Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, Troye Sivan, Camila Cabello, Beats Antique, Electronic Creatives, Rob Garza, BassNectar and DJ Shadow.
One of the first Ableton Live Certified Trainers and AVID Protools Expert, Preece is a skilled educator who integrates real world experience and leading-edge techniques in his teaching approach. After serving as a course director for sound arts at Ex’pression College and an audio technology instructor at Foothill College and Pyramind, Timo currently teaches Electronic Synthesizer Techniques and Audio Technology Performance courses at the USC Thornton School of Music.
As a sound designer and content creator, Preece programs instrument and device presets. In 2018 he contributed to Ableton Live 10’s sound library as well as Drive and Glow, Glitch and Wash, Chop and Swing sound packs. He also created unique groove sets and patches for Native Instruments Kontakt Discovery Series and produced audio demos for software instruments such as Form and Kinetic Treats.
Timo is also a journalist for the popular audio technology website Ask.Audio and has written articles, reviews and tutorials for products and companies including Elektron, Ableton, Roland, Keith McMillen, SubPac and others. Additionally, he creates online video courses for Ask.Video (MacProVideo) that explore creative sound design and music production/performance techniques. Preece holds degrees in Ethnomusicology from UCLA and a Masters in Sound Design from the University of Edinburgh, UK.
