Catch a Live Interview with machìna at the Next Loop Session
At each Loop Session, we spend a few hours with one artist to learn about their work and ideas. So far we’ve seen Grand River’s creative process, explored the art of listening with Pan Daijing and tried songwriting in the studio with Wayne Snow. This time, you’ll meet Korean composer machìna to learn how she translates her studio creations into a compelling live show.
machìna’s music practice combines the freedom of an underground artist with the dazzling stage presence of a pop star. When she abandoned her K-pop career to pursue idiosyncratic, emotional electronic music, she held onto many of the lessons she learned from the industry she left behind. This best-of-both-worlds approach allows her to turn her art into a show, without compromising her vision.
At Loop Session, she’ll chat to moderator Craig Schuftan and answer live questions from the audience. You can gain insights into the relationship between studio process and stage presentation from an artist whose music is deeply personal, but who nevertheless also wants to move people, to make them dance and dream. Selfish art for everyone!
Loop Session will stream on loop.ableton.com July 22 at 6pm, Berlin/Germany (UTC+2). Check out the timezone selector to find out when it happens in your local time. After the session, you can exchange with other music makers at the Loop Cafe, hosted on Discord.
