Structure Void is an Ableton Certified Training Center that pushes the boundaries of musical learning. Founded by Julien Bayle, an artist and the only trainer in France certified by both Ableton and Cycling '74 for Ableton Live and Max, it combines a practical and exploratory approach. Here, music production, beatmaking, and sound design coexist with granular synthesis, algorithmic music, and computational composition. We teach not only Ableton Live but also Max and Max for Live, which extend its capabilities and allow creators to design their own tools, sequencers, and interactive instruments. Our approach is at the cutting edge, blending research in spatialization, sound design, and generative digital art.

Founded in 2008 by Julien Bayle, artist and programmer, Structure Void is a training and experimentation center. Here, music production and beatmaking with Live naturally integrate with a broader approach, including algorithmic music, granular synthesis, micro-editing, and computational sound design.

Since 2010, Structure Void has offered certified and fundable training programs, notably for freelance artists and performing arts professionals in France. In 2024, Julien Bayle became the first Max Certified Trainer in France, further strengthening our expertise in computational and interactive music creation.

Our training is open to a wide range of profiles, from musicians seeking to refine their Ableton Live workflow to digital artists developing custom instruments and audiovisual systems, as well as art educators and researchers. We provide personalized guidance, combining online and in-person courses, individual follow-ups, practical exercises, and technical mentorship.

Our curriculum covers various areas:

  • Music production and beatmaking with Live, integrating Max for Live to develop custom tools, automate parameters, and create advanced sequencers

  • Sound design and synthesis (additive, granular, FM, virtual modular with VCV Rack)

  • Generative and algorithmic music, drawing inspiration from IRCAM’s research, and mastery of tools such as Max, RNBO, and GRM Tools

  • Spatialization and interactive installations, integrating IRCAM’s SPAT, OSC, MIDI, Arduino, and sensors, for both immersive projects and live performances

  • Audiovisual creation and generative art (TouchDesigner, audio-reactive visuals, sonification, real-time interaction)

We teach you how to expand Live beyond its conventional framework through Max for Live and the Live Object Model, enabling automation, real-time interaction with Live’s interface, and dynamic behavior creation. We also train you to design Live MIDI Tools, whether generators or transformers, to push the boundaries of algorithmic composition and interactive systems.

Our students have access to professional equipment, including MIDI controllers, interactive sensors, and spatialization tools, ensuring an immersive and hands-on learning experience.

Whether you are a producer, composer, sound designer, or digital artist, Structure Void provides not only solid technical skills but also a deep and integrated approach to sound and visual creation, designed as a global ecosystem rooted in research and advanced creative practices.
