Juan Fernando has been working in music for the past 20 years, with vast experience in the performance of several instruments, music production & engineering, music technology and education. This allowed him to experiment with a lot of different music genres and, currently, he specializes in composing, producing and working with Ecuadorian traditional rhythms, fusing them with electronic music styles.
He is the Chair of Music Production and Technology department at Escuela de Música at Universidad de las Américas (UDLA) in Quito, Ecuador. He created the first Ableton Live course included in an official curriculum map in the country. Additionally, he teaches various music production, music technology and engineering courses for the performance, music composition and music production majors, and has been invited as a speaker to several academic and cultural congresses. He is involved in several research projects that rescue and reassess Ecuadorian traditional music.
Juan Fernando discovered Ableton Live in 2006 (version 6), since then, he has been using it as one of his main musical instruments and music production tools. During his creative voyage in these past years he incorporated Push 2 and Max for Live to multiply and enhance his performance skills.
He teaches Ableton Live, Push 2 and Max for Live at beginner and intermediate levels in large group classes and gives on-line one to one custom classes and tutorials for advanced Ableton Live users. Recently, he developed a new music production and technology curriculum based on using Ableton Live as a musical instrument and including the use of technology to assess creativity.
Currently, Juan Fernando continues with his work as composer and producer of several artistic projects.
