For the inaugural Loop summit in October 2015, we invited artists, producers, technologists and academics to share ideas and projects with an audience of fellow music-makers. Over the next months we will be posting many of the talks, discussions and presentations from the event, and penning our own reflections on the topics that came up.
We begin with a fascinating audio-visual presentation by Holly Herndon. Here she describes and demonstrates how thinking through the process behind her work has helped her to engage with themes from outside the sphere of music. The wide-ranging talk touches on the dogmas of academia and the dancefloor, the intimacy of the laptop, NSA surveillance, and finding the sound of now.
